The LUN platform has launched the Energy Efficiency Map of Residential Buildings in Ukraine — a tool that allows assessing not only the location and price of an apartment but also the future living costs even before buying or renting. The project has been implemented with the expert support of the public organization "Ecoaction".
According to LUN, the vast majority of the housing stock in Ukraine remains energy inefficient. Uninsulated buildings typically have energy efficiency classes E–G, which means significant heat loss, reduced comfort levels, and increased heating costs. In outdated buildings, heat losses can reach up to 30%, and residents often do not have the ability to regulate the temperature in the rooms.
The key factor of energy efficiency is not the type of heating, but the state of the building: construction technology, insulation of facades, roofs, and basements, as well as the modernization of engineering networks. Even centralized heating can be economically viable in buildings with insulated facades, individual heating points, and isolated networks.
The LUN Energy Efficiency Map aggregates data from the primary and secondary real estate markets and allows:
▪️ to see the energy efficiency class of a specific building;
▪️ to assess potential heat losses;
▪️ to compare buildings with each other within the area or city.
The tool is aimed not only at buyers and renters but also at developers and local government bodies — as an analytical basis for assessing the state of the housing stock and planning modernization programs.
At the first stage, the map covers 10,280 residential buildings in Kyiv. The project is not static: LUN plans to gradually expand to other cities in Ukraine and regularly update the data. In the future, housing associations (OSBB) and representatives of buildings will be involved in updating the information directly from the sites.
LUN emphasizes that energy efficiency is not just a matter of comfort, but a component of housing and energy policy. Open and understandable data about the state of buildings allow for more informed decisions — both at the level of individual families and at the level of state and municipal support programs for insulation and housing modernization.
